Course content

This module introduces students to the fundamental skills of swimming, including basic strokes such as crawl, breaststroke, and backstroke. It will focus on developing confidence and efficiency in the water through practical exercises that improve technique and physical endurance.

Students will delve into advanced swimming techniques and specific maneuvers for water rescue. They will be taught the effective use of energy in rescue situations and how to maintain control in challenging aquatic environments.

The course covers methods for preventing accidents in swimming pools and other aquatic facilities. It will cover proper supervision, safety regulations, and how to educate the public about the risks and safe behaviors in and around the water.

This module is dedicated to learning water rescue techniques, including approaching, transporting and extracting victims from the water. Skills for handling emergency situations, such as open water rescues and adverse conditions, will also be developed.

Participants will be trained in essential first aid techniques, including CPR, injury management and other medical emergencies. The course includes practice with simulations to ensure a quick and efficient response in real cases.

In this module, students will put all the knowledge acquired into practice in a real environment. Internships may include stays in swimming pools, beaches or other aquatic facilities, under the supervision of experienced professionals, to consolidate lifesaving skills.

Equipment and resources

The Aquatic Facilities Lifeguard Course at Joviat benefits from a wide range of equipment and resources designed to ensure practical, efficient, immersive, and high-quality training. The practical part of the course takes place in the municipal swimming pools of Manresa.

Upon successful completion of the Aquatic Lifeguard Course, participants will receive a Certificate of Professionalism. This accreditation is officially recognized and validates the skills and abilities acquired in aquatic lifeguarding, both in rescue techniques and first aid. It is an essential recognition that demonstrates the students’ ability to act effectively in emergency situations in aquatic environments.

To access the course, interested parties must be unemployed and must comply with the specific requirements established by the call:

  • Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) certificate or equivalent or higher qualification (alternatively, a key competencies test can be taken at the center).
  • Payroll or current contract (in its absence, the DARDO document as a job seeker).
  • Valid DNI or NIE.

The course includes an 80-hour internship module that takes place in municipal swimming pools or collaborating aquatic facilities. This part of the training allows students to apply the theoretical knowledge acquired in real situations, developing their practical skills under the supervision of experienced professionals.

The Certificate of Professionalism obtained can serve as a starting point for access to other related studies, such as advanced first aid courses, specific first aid training, or even studies related to sports, health and well-being.

The course opens up several career opportunities in the water lifesaving sector and related areas. Graduates can work as lifeguards in municipal swimming pools, water parks, hotels and resorts, sports centers, and swimming clubs, among others.
